Holiday Party for a Staff of One & 1/2

Being self-employed certainly has its pros and cons along with its ups and downs but no matter what, I have absolutely no regrets about opening KA Social Media Consulting three years ago.  The one thing that I do miss this time of year is a big Christmas party or a good old fashion potluck; which tends to happen when working at a larger company.

Christmas Past

For the past two years I have co-organized a Christmas luncheon & Secret Santa for the self-employed with  Debbie of  PeopleCanTraining & Development but this year with our newest little employee it simply was not in the cards.

Solo Christmas Party

Last year a bunch of my blogger friends at ECM Media respectively hosted their own solo Christmas party.  I was not organized enough to do so at the time. This year, however, with the new littlest employee on the payroll, I knew I couldn’t slack off. We just had to do something special for her first Christmas party at KA Social Media Consulting.

When planning a party it is important to follow the 5 W’s

Who: Employees of KA Social Media Consulting

What: Christmas Party

When: Wednesday, December 20, 2017

Where: Some of our favorite spots in Halifax

Why: To celebrate a wonderful and successful 2017

Playing Dress-up!

First of all, we dressed up! This may not seem dressed up to you but since starting with the company in October Baby B & I have often been found working in our pj’s or yoga pants. We thought since we were going out in public we should dress up for the occasion.

Once we got in the car we thought we deserved a little treat; our first stop was the Tim Horton’s drive-thru for our favorite holiday drinks- The Peppermint Hot Chocolate for me and milk for Baby B!

With warm drinks in our bellies, we hit the bridge and headed to one of our favorite spots in Halifax The Halifax Seaport Market .

To the Market, we Must Go!

We love the Seaport Market for so many reasons. The food, the view, the vendors and especially the fact that we are supporting local.

Even though it’s much busier and has more vendors on the weekends it’s always fun to visit throughout the week, especially when Baby B is coming along. We absolutely loved the Christmas tree and man oh man that view never gets old, especially on a beautiful sunny day.

Our Favourites

While at the market we picked up some our favorites from regular market vendors Springhouse and Gourmandises Avenue Chocolates.

Since some of our regular vendors aren’t present during the week we hit up  The Shelf to stock up on Pat’s Preserves since he is now retired 🙁

While browsing, we saw this Root Beer Jelly that we simply couldn’t leave behind. Watch our stories during the holidays to see what we think of this sweet treat.  I cannot wait until Baby B can actually start trying these goodies with me.

Oh and the wine! The Shelf has such a great selection of local wines that we couldn’t pass up. We grabbed a bottle of Benjamin Bridge’s Tidal Bay for our afternoon celebrations. Don’t worry, Baby B didn’t even get to smell the cork.

Nap Time

After all the shopping and browsing the youngest employee was a little tired. We opted out of going for lunch and headed home for a relaxing afternoon of indulging in our treats while watching our favorite movie ELF.  It was the perfect flick to enjoy while opening our gifts from the boss.

“The boss” was very impressed with our 2017 results and went all out this year! I received a $100 gift card to Willow Esthetics and Baby B, as a new employee, received a cash bonus of $50, hee hee. We were both super excited and can’t wait to spoil ourselves.

Holiday Success

Overall I’d say our first KA Social Media Holiday Party was a huge success! All the employees and management were extremely happy and we are already looking forward to making this an annual event. Until next time,
